JC Palm Sunday

As earlier reported, The JC Palm Sunday came sooner then expected. It is currently dropped randomly starting from 19th March 2012 at 4.30 pm HKG time.
I didn't get the figure but I do like the fighting JC's design. Especially the current incarnation, red robe & adidas sneakers. The whole of today, I have been thinking for design layouts for a JC Drawing.
Check out my inpiration, ThreeA's Fighting JC...

The original Doodle concept..It was suppose to be a crucified JC, profile from his right side.

The WIP sketch, it was first Black lined, then Grey enhanced & color tones added.
The Final result, My 2nd attempt to paint...I am happy

Spidey in color..

18th March 2012, beside celebrating more then a decade in marriage with my lovely wife. I will always remember it as the day I fully completed my first coloring.
Its the beginning I've been yearning to start. I have been trying to begin my sketch & coloring practices with replicating comic covers. Initially I had begun the practice with a sketch of the original World Finest #2 but felt it wasn't appropriate & delayed the coloring.
Today, I just grab my sketch pad, started with some Captain America poses but didn't felt right doing it. I began thinking about designs using negative space and interested by the color of the subject blending in the background.
Without even considering or planing any layout, I just when ahead & sketch away. The only paint medium available was a box of watercolor. Its been decades since I last used it. There wasn't any particular technique I was using, Just going with memories from past greats.

The finish product, Spiderman cradling Mary Jane...

Visions of Madonna....

Here are some takes on proposed pics of Madonna for a poster project for my wife.
Trying to come up with some original takes off her..
This my first attempt to color a drawing, I did it with some highlighter (didn't turn up good in scans) Got to take some clearer picture of it.

Will be released on April 1st 2012...Wait for it :)

Martin Ontiveros goodness...

Its been a longtime since i got me some stuff by Martin Ontiveros.
Martin is an American Artist from Portland. My first exposure of his work is from a Japanese based Kaiju vinyl company called Gargamel. He had a signature toy based on his paintings, Ojo Rojo.
My first figure from him is the Camfire Mini set, It is cast in Glow plastic resins & the set consist of 2 figures, Martin's Mini Ojo & Bwana Spoon's Glooby. That was released way back in 2007....

Much have happened since then, I am now back on Martin's trail once more. Nothing like a good package day, to kick start the love. These is by far the best package ever, maybe it was because it was personally packed & shipped by the Artist himself or that fact that Martin is actually a great guy. Either way my respect, admiration & of his work will always be there.

My latest haul ;----

ThreeA 3A, MK2 Andy & MK1 Squaro..Andy Wahol 'Brillo' Inspired.

Just got the 2 pcs WWR MK2 Andy on the 07th March 2012. These are the latest toys shipped from ThreeA toys (3A). ThreeA toys are founded by Comic Illustrator Ashley Wood & Toy manufacturer Kim.

“The Square² (or Square) is a small support robot in the WWR Universe. Variations of the Square² have also made an impact in the civilian sector including emergency logistics and light cartage.”

Current featured review are the MK2 Square Andy (Squaro), from Ashley Wood / 3A, World War Robot (WWR) series. Released for pre-order on the 24th Dec 2011, priced at USD 65.00. The Toy’s production had already pre-determined so items did stay at the store for too long. I remember that they lasted about 30 min at the store.
The MK2 Sq’s are the 2nd variation to 3A’s ever popular MK1 square, as seen here (short legged lil fella). They consist of many fraction, the ones featured here are the “Squaro” version. Inspired by Andy Warhol’s Brillo works. Ashley wood is a known admirer of Andy Warhol’s art & works. Coincidentally, they even share the same initial (AW).
Back to the toy’s, Both featured MK1 & MK2 Squaro’s are 1/6th Scaled & sold together with 10” X 10” prints. Mk1 Squaro : Is a SDCC 2011 exclusive made for sale only at Toy Tokyo’s booth, it has a limited run of 100 pcs with a price tag of USD 55.00.
As you can see both square versions spots similar motif & designs. The only obvious difference are their physical attributes. I prefer the Squaro’s overall designs, it’s color & weathering is different from the other WWR fraction. I also like how it represents pop culture & itself is an iconic integration on to a 3A toy..

ThreeA, 3A AK Ankou-Ex Laurent..

From Ashley Wood’s Adventure Kartel come Ankou Ex Laurent. These are supposed to be the heavy duties Zombie Basher..
The Huge beast are 16” tall and 7” in width, can just imagine the nightmare displaying it in a deltof & the amount of display real estate it covers.
All else it still makes for a great toy figure. It is my favorite 3A AK figure. It’s been rumored that this figure was under ordered because it was the least fancied design during Pre-order period. Hence many had speculated only 99 pcs exist.

Absolutely London! Absolut x Jamie Hewlett, Ltd Edt Colab

Right above is the result of ABSOLUT vodka’s collaboration with Gorillaz artistic mastermind Jamie Hewlett. As Branding Magazine reports, Hewlett was given the task of designing a bottle for the company’s London brand. What he came up with is a “unique take on London’s style and fashion pioneers over the past 200 years” featuring seven characters from the city’s past, including the Dickensian, the 18th century dandy, the punks, the mods, the 50s pinstripe, the 60s chic, and the 80s casual.
The limited-edition bottle will be available at UK department stores Selfridges and Harvey Nichols beginning March 1st, with a wide release following in April. Might I suggest picking up a pair of Gorillaz Converse’s on your way to the liquor store?

R.I.P Ralph McQuarrie

The real visual artist of a Galaxy Far, far away......

Ralph McQuarrie passed away this week-end. Ralph McQuarrie is the genius who partly made Star Wars universe unique
Ralph McQuarrie born in 1923, he began working as an illustrator for Boeing and the NASA before Georges Lucas asks him to work on his Star Wars project. McQuarrie designed Chewbacca and Vader, and drew hundred of pictures that would finally create the visual universe of Star Wars. Costumes, spaceships, places, designs… One thing is sure : without this brilliant illustrator, Star Wars would have not been what it is. And more important, maybe Star Wars would have not existed, because this is mainly thanks to his designs and drawings that Lucas succeeded into involving the Fox into the project… Ralph McQuarrie then worked on Ron Howard’s Cocoon, for which he got an Oscar (visal effects), but also on Spielberg’s Space Encounters and E.T. Hopefully his memory will never die thanks to the movies he helped creating. So long mister MacQuarrie, and May The Force Be With You.
