R.I.P Ralph McQuarrie

The real visual artist of a Galaxy Far, far away......

Ralph McQuarrie passed away this week-end. Ralph McQuarrie is the genius who partly made Star Wars universe unique
Ralph McQuarrie born in 1923, he began working as an illustrator for Boeing and the NASA before Georges Lucas asks him to work on his Star Wars project. McQuarrie designed Chewbacca and Vader, and drew hundred of pictures that would finally create the visual universe of Star Wars. Costumes, spaceships, places, designs… One thing is sure : without this brilliant illustrator, Star Wars would have not been what it is. And more important, maybe Star Wars would have not existed, because this is mainly thanks to his designs and drawings that Lucas succeeded into involving the Fox into the project… Ralph McQuarrie then worked on Ron Howard’s Cocoon, for which he got an Oscar (visal effects), but also on Spielberg’s Space Encounters and E.T. Hopefully his memory will never die thanks to the movies he helped creating. So long mister MacQuarrie, and May The Force Be With You.
